U1: continuous operation since the start of service on Friday, 29 November
Damage was repaired in record time
We checked the structure for damage as soon as the clean-up work was complete. We then carried out repairs to the infrastructure: We not only had to lay 50 metres of track, but also several kilometres of cable. Once the basic technical infrastructure had been restored, tests were carried out to ensure safe railway operations. A track measuring carriage was then deployed - just like after the flood work. Finally, final test runs were carried out and all affected stations were thoroughly cleaned again. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of around 300 employees, who worked around the clock, the line was reopened in record time.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoingÂ
The cause of the fire is still being investigated in close co-operation with an external fire expert, the vehicle manufacturer and the fire investigators from the Vienna State Office of Criminal Investigation. The external fire expert has been advising us since the incident and is preparing a comprehensive report on the events and their causes.
