Line U1: currently limited service
What happened:
In the late afternoon of 19 November, a fire broke out in one of the carriages of a special train without passengers on the U1 line for reasons that are currently unknown. The fire was extinguished by the fire brigade. The train was travelling without passengers towards Reumannplatz to be parked there as a reserve train.
Current: The clean-up work is in full progress
Wiener Linien staff have been working continuously in the affected section for over 20 hours. We are currently busy with the clean-up work and the fire brigade is assisting with the removal of the train. The vehicle is not roadworthy and has to be towed away at great expense. Parts of the vehicle have to be secured and loading it onto the special vehicle is also millimetre work.
Five of the slightly injured colleagues have already been discharged to home care. The 25-year-old female driver continues to receive medical and crisis psychology care.
Service status:
- The U1 line only runs between Oberlaa and Reumannplatz and between Schwedenplatz and Leopoldau. The stations Keplerplatz to Stephansplatz cannot be served.
- Lines 1 and O run at more frequent intervals.
From Thursday, 21 November 2024, start of operations:
- Wiener Linien will set up a rail replacement service: Line D will run (diverted) via Schwedenplatz and Franz-Josefs-Kai and will be extended beyond Absberggasse to Reumannplatz. This will also connect Schwedenplatz.
- The U2z line (night service) will also be extended to Reumannplatz. It will run from Schwedenplatz via the Ring (Rathaus - Universität) to Schwarzenbergplatz and via the route of line D to Reumannplatz.
- Lines 1 and O are also good alternatives that you can use.
