U2 Reinprechtsdorfer Straße

U2 brings Margareten into the centre, creates new connections

The Reinprechtsdorfer Straße U2 station is the first underground station in the heart of the 5th district. In future, our passengers will be able to reach the U2 platforms conveniently via entrances at Siebenbrunnengasse and Bacherplatz. Both station entrances are equipped with several lifts and fixed stairs.

The U2 will also bring Margareten closer to the city centre: from the Reinprechtsdorfer Straße U2 station, it will take around two minutes to reach the new public transport hub U2xS Matzleinsdorfer Platz or the U2xU4 Pilgramgasse station. In future, you will only need around seven minutes to get to Schottentor - that's around three times as fast as today!

Milestones:

  • End of 2023: Excavation and construction of the shaft walls are completed. Tunnelling work begins.
  • 2030: The U2 extension to Matzleinsdorfer Platz goes into operation.

The U2xU5 information centre is an interactive exhibition in the Volkstheater U3 station. Various stations provide in-depth insights into underground railway construction. However, the exhibition is not just for looking at, but for touching and trying out for yourself. Why not try your hand at controlling the tunnelling machine and dig your way through Vienna's underground!
