U2xU4 Pilgramgasse

New public transport hub makes journeys shorter

The U2xU4 Pilgramgasse station is a new public transport hub on the border of Margareten and Mariahilf. A spacious new station building is being built under the existing U4 line, which can be reached via escalators and several lifts. The station entrances in Hofmühlgasse and Rechte Wienzeile will be connected under the Wien River.

For our passengers, the U2 extension means a major improvement: from the U2xU4 Pilgramgasse station, you can reach the U2xU3 Neubaugasse station in around two minutes and the U2xS Matzleinsdorfer Platz station in three minutes.

Milestones:

2022: Start of construction of the Kaunitzgasse emergency exit. Construction of the shaft walls is completed in mid-2022.
From 2023, most of the construction work will take place underground.
2030: The U2 extension to Matzleinsdorfer Platz goes into operation.

The U2xU5 information centre is an interactive exhibition in the Volkstheater U3 station. Various stations provide in-depth insights into underground railway construction. However, the exhibition is not just for looking at, but for touching and trying out for yourself. Why not try your hand at controlling the tunnelling machine and dig your way through Vienna's underground!
