U2xU3 Neubaugasse

Vienna's lowest underground station

A new, important transfer hub for the U2 and U3 underground lines is being built at Neubaugasse. Around 35 metres below street level, it will be the lowest-lying station in Vienna's entire underground network. A total of eight lifts will take passengers directly to and from the U2 platforms.

Neubau will benefit greatly from the new U2: Both the 13A bus line and the U3 and U6 lines will be significantly relieved. From the U2xU3 Neubaugasse station, for example, you will be able to get to the U2 Schottentor station in three minutes.

Milestones:

  • 2022: Start of construction for the Augustinplatz/Neustiftgasse emergency exit. Construction of the shaft walls is completed.
  • From 2023, most of the construction work will take place underground.
  • 2030: The U2 extension to Matzleinsdorfer Platz goes into operation.

The U2xU5 information centre is an interactive exhibition in the Volkstheater U3 station. Various stations provide in-depth insights into underground railway construction. However, the exhibition is not just for looking at, but for touching and trying out for yourself. Why not try your hand at controlling the tunnelling machine and dig your way through Vienna's underground!
