U2xS Matzleinsdorfer Platz

New transfer option to the S-Bahn, new connections

Around 50,000 people live and work in the catchment area of Matzleinsdorfer Platz and will benefit directly from the new U2 station in future. Thanks to the connection of the new U2 to the main S-Bahn line, thousands of commuters from the south of Vienna will be able to change to the underground towards the city centre here every day. Passengers will then be able to travel from Matzleinsdorfer Platz to City Hall in just seven minutes, for example.

Milestones:

  • 2022: The underground outer walls of the station are completed.
  • 2023: The tunnelling machine is delivered and assembled.
  • 2024: Tunnelling towards Augustinplatz begins.
  • 2030: The U2 extension to Matzleinsdorfer Platz goes into operation.

The U2xU5 information centre is an interactive exhibition in the Volkstheater U3 station. Various stations provide in-depth insights into underground railway construction. However, the exhibition is not just for looking at, but for touching and trying out for yourself. Why not try your hand at controlling the tunnelling machine and dig your way through Vienna's underground!
